  英语的唯一法宝。”这是中国台湾大学教授颜员叔学习英语的体会。读中学时,他就养成每天早起高声朗读的习惯,每天坚持一个小时。他有一本“英文精读文选”,其中《林肯的盖茨堡演讲》曾被他一遍又一遍地从头念到尾,有些段落甚至都能背出来。

  中文里的字都是单音节的,即一个辅音加一个元音。除12个鼻辅音外,其他辅音都不在词尾。而英文里多音节词辅音连缀极其普遍。因此中国人的发音器官和嘴里的运动肌肉不能习惯英语的发音。不通过朗读就无法训练嘴部肌肉的运动,很可能心里知道某个词,甚至能拼写,但舌头就是不听使唤说不出来。而法国人或者德国人学英语就不会有类似的困难,因为他们母语的发音所涉及的肌肉运动和英语的发音没有什么本质的区别。可见朗读可以训练发音器官,使肌肉能适应英语发音的需要。

  但要求学生朗读并非没有考究,有些地方还需要教师指导示范:

  1.要求学生在朗读中利用手势、表情、动作和声音等表演手段,以加强语言的表现力,更生动地传达说话人的思想和感情。当然教师应先作示范,然后再让学生模仿。教师可以引导学生在听音时,充分想象当时的情景,细细揣摩说话人的心情及说话人的语调,然后再加上适当的动作、表情。表情朗读往往使用一些夸张的手法,但不宜过分追求,应在声音逼真、表情自然方面下功夫。

  2.对于简单的句子、对话,学生读起来比较容易;可是一旦遇上长句,就不知如何去读了。这时教师可以运用分解合成的方法教学生朗读。学生一次性流利地朗读是有困难的,可以将长句划分为几个意群,用分解合成的方法来学习,先逐个读熟,再读全句。学生也会在教师多次运用这种方法来学习句子时,自然而然地掌握朗读的技能。

  上诉诸位名家,在谈到英语学习的经验时都提到了背诵,我想这不是偶然的。背诵的材料中有许多精美的句段篇章,这些素材经过背诵后存进了头脑。背的东西越多,积累的也就越多,无形中就会融会贯通,会背的句子稍加变换,就是一个新句子。因此可以说背诵的内容越多,口语就会越流利。当学生用英语交流时,可以轻而易举地从记忆中提取所需要的内容,例如选用适当的词语,套用合适的句型,模仿类似的篇章架构等。

  叶圣陶曾倡导说:“令学生吟诵,要使他们看作是一种享受,一遍比一遍读得入调,一遍比一遍体会得亲切,并不希望早一点背熟,而自然达到纯熟的境界。抱着这种享受的态度是最容易受益的途径。”那么教师应该怎样激发学生背诵的兴趣呢?

  英语口语教学最根本的目的就是培养学生的交际能力。因此,在英语口语教学中如何通过拓宽学生的知识面、深化思维、锻炼他们的语言能力,培养他们的思辨能力与创造能力,提高学生英语交际能力,成为英语口语教学必须完成的中心任务。笔者经过几年来口语教学实践,总结出了一套行之有效的方法,并取得了显著的效果。

  1.通过中西文化及语言的差异比较,设计日常口语会话情景,训练日常口语会话

  学生要熟练掌握日常口语会话,就必须掌握范围广阔的、基本得当的日常用语,以服务于交际目的。如怎样表示想与陌生人交谈;怎样表示喜爱与厌恶,赞同与异议;怎样问路与指路;怎样发出与接受邀请;怎样处理电话;怎样抱怨与安慰别人;如何购物、求医、求学,节假日或旅游时的交际范围有那些等等。这些问题看似简单,但由于中西文化及语言的差异,好多学生不知如何应付这些问题。在基础会话单元教学过程,笔者针对这一情况首先通过中西方语言差异比较,将学生感到困难的关键句列在黑板上,然后将学生分组,自己设计情景,组织会话,并进行反复实践,使学生对自己使用不当的和道得体的语言行逐步加深印象。如在对学生发出各种各样的由英文语法+汉语表达的"邀请"信息后,将各种得体地道的表达形式列于黑板:

  在讨论这样的题材时,有时是全班一起讨论,有时是每组负责讨论一个问题,然后面向全班阐述自己的观点;有时是各小组将各自讨论的结果作对比,分析总结异同,并且学生即兴发言,最后教师进行总结。在讨论某一问题时,要求每个发言者不能只顾自说自己的,而是要针对前一个人的发言做出评论,提出自己的观点,阐述自己的看法。这样不仅使每位同学都能集中注意力,同学间相互学习和逐步领会驾驭语言的要领,而且也促进了学生思维能力及驾驭语言能力的提高,从而为口语能力的进一步提高打下良好的基础。

  3.通过对热点话题辩论,提高学生口语的思辨能力

  提高学生口语的思辨能力是口语教学的最高阶段。这一阶段的主要目的是培养学生作长篇论述的能力。目前,大多数中国学生需要口语输出时,讲的多是零星片语,而形不成有序的逻辑主体。其主要原因是缺乏联想与想象这方面的训练,不知道应从多角度多层面进行剖析。针对这一现象,笔者在教学中通过循序渐进的形式积极引导学生对每一个会话题材进行横向和纵向的分析。如在组织讨论"WhatisHappiness?"时,笔者引导学生先做横向讨论,既不同的人有不同的幸福观:中学生的幸福观是什么?大学生的幸福观是什么?单身汉的幸福观是什么?年轻夫妇的幸福观是什么?老年人的幸福观是什么?知识分子的幸福观是什么?这时可引用爱尔兰著名诗人叶的话来总结知识分子的幸福观:我们终生的幸福取决于我们选择困难的难度。再从纵向来讲,即使同一个人在不同的时期也具有不同的幸福观。笔者用自己的例子加以说明,然后鼓励学生从各自不同的成长阶段寻找例子,或从身边其它人不同的成长阶段发掘例子等。第三从逆向讲,幸福不应只注重结果而忽略过程。对幸福的追求中,饱含渴望的过程更为重要。如改革开放初期,许多年轻人涌向深圳寻求机会,梦想着做出一番成就。经过几年奋斗才发现自己可能永远不会成为企业家或老板,有人可能会永远处于社会的底层。这时是退却还是失望?不,应该及时调整自己的心态。即使你不能达到希望的顶层,但你同样可以享受生活,享受现代科学给你带来的乐趣。最后再进一步深化讨论的主体,得出获得幸福的关键是保持心理平衡,并分析、阐释这一观点。通过这样一系列的引导和讨论,不仅活跃了学生的思维、提高了口语的思辨能力,而且陶冶了情操。

  为了进一步提高学生的口头表达与思辨、分析和创新能力,笔者在口语课的后期阶段还采用演讲、辩论或二者相结合等方式进行教学。如对老师布置的题材,要求每位学生选择不同的主题准备2分钟,然后上台做即兴演讲,演讲完毕后,其它学生可以质疑,此引发出热烈的辩论。这样既训练学生的快速反应能力又训练了学生批判性倾听能力。有时,还采用正反两方辩论的形式组织教学。在这种情况下,教师先定好辩论的话题,确定正方与反方,然后让学生自己去查找资料,分析资料,再综合对比进行辩论。通过辩论,学生不仅知道了如何推理、如何识别与利用不同的资料为自己服务,而且知道了如何发现问题、分析问题和解决类问题。既提高了语言的运用能力又增强了学生对社会问题的敏感性。

  总之,英语口语教学不仅要使学生系统地掌握了英语日常口语,了解了语言的文化含义,能使用本族人普遍接受的语言,更重要的是要促进了学生思辨能力的形成与发展,提高学生运用知识思考分析问题、提出见解的能力。正如大多数学生在英语口语课结束时所形容的那样"英语口语课不仅使我们口语流利,也改变了我们的思想。"

  二、教学内容分析:本课是新授课,要求学生能听说两个句型&127;"I have got..."和“You have got...”。&127;由于学生在前几课已掌握本课的八组词组,&127;因此要求学生能够运用这八组词组和学过的知识在这两个句型中进行替换,并初步运用于情景交际中。

  三、教学对象分析:本课的教学对象是一年级的学生。&127;一年级的学生活泼好动,勇于开口模仿,而且他们接触英语不久,对英语有着浓厚的兴趣。通过一个多学期的学习,学生掌握了一些基本的句型和&127;45个物品的英语名称,能够说一些简单的问候语和对话,&127;学生还能听懂一些课堂用语和有秩序地进行教学游戏。但学生的年龄小,&127;控制能力差,有意注意时间短,因此在这节课中我充分利用各种媒体,&127;并结合各种游戏,吸引学生的注意力,让学生在轻松愉快的气氛中学英语。

  2、运用电脑进行猜物游戏。电脑荧幕上出现一个小男孩李明和六个盒子,要求学生扮演李明任选其中一个盒子,&127;猜一猜盒子里面装有什么东西,并用句型"I have got..."说出答案。例如,学生选择第一个盒子,教师用鼠标指向第一个盒子,&127;则荧幕上的李明走过去拿起第一个盒子,这时在荧幕下方出现四种物品:橡皮擦,铅笔,尺子,铅笔盒。正确的答案是尺子。如果学生选择其它三种物品,如铅笔,&127;当教师用鼠标指向铅笔时,则在铅笔这幅图上出现一个红色的“×”,&127;同时李明手中的盒子里冒出一个怪物,并配有表示失望的音乐。&127;如果学生选择了正确的答案尺子,当教师用鼠标指向尺子时,李明手中的盒子变成了尺子,同时李明会说:"Yes, I have got a ruler."&127;学生选了正确的答案后,换另一个学生选择另一个盒子,游戏继续进行。&127;附电脑画面简图:

  3、看影子猜物品游戏。教师把剪好的各种物品的剪影放在投影灯下,让学生看着影子猜出是什么物品,并用“You have got...”这个句型说出答案。 &127;

  1、看录像编对话,播放三个对话录像,第一遍只放像不放声音,&127;要求学生根据录像中学生的动作、表情编对话,先小组内对话,&127;然后请一小组进行表演。第二遍配上声音,进行比较,看谁编得好。&127;录像内容如下:

  (一)小学生在口语教学中存在的主要问题:

  1.发音错误多。

  学生在朗读英语单词、句子、课文时,语音方面所出现的错误甚多,如发音不到位,不能正确朗读开音节和闭音节、清辅音和浊辅音混淆,升降调不分等。

  2.口语能力差:

  ①能正确用适当的词语和句子,完整流畅的表达话题内容,但语音语调不符合要求。

  ②不能正确回答问题,经常答非所问,甚至有的学生用“Yes/No”回答所有的问题,话题简述用词不当,句意含糊。

  (二)问题的具体解决策略或口语教学建议:

  1.就发音问题,可以鼓励学生模仿磁带或少儿英语广播,反复练习。另外,注意以“国标发音”为准。

  2.就口语能力差问题:

  ①为学生营造语言训练的环境,使口语表达成为学生的内在需求,

  “听、说、读、写、译”是英语学习中的五要素,位于五要素之二的“说”——口语却是大多数英语学习者学习的薄弱环节。“哑巴英语”成了过去多数人无法挣脱的现象:初中毕业生无法回答简单的“what’syourname?”、“Howoldareyou?”;大学生在请求帮助的外国友人面前无言以对;通过英语六级考试的大学毕业生到国外留学无法与外国人沟通等等。这些现象不同的角度说明了提高英语的口语水平已经到了迫在眉睫地步。

  如何有效地解决“哑巴英语”这一问题一直为广大教师所关注。常言道:知其然且要知其所以然。而解决问题的关键就是要找到造成该现象的原因。只有这样,方能做到对症下药。对于“哑巴英语”造成的原因,我认为可以归纳为三点:

  一、传统应试教育的弊端。考试一直是传统应试教育检查学生学习情况的主要手段,而评估教师的教学能力的标准在很大程度上是学生学习成绩。“优秀教师”往往是指最有办法、最能精确抓到考题的老师,而学生要的也就是会抓重点并切中考题的老师。为了使学生的成绩得到提高,为了升学率,老师们在教学中更注重的往往也是典型题型的解题方法或操练等应付考试的办法。而口语未列入高考考试内容,因此被忽略成了其必然性。这样一来,分数再高的学生也有可能在英语口语方面是哑巴了。

  二、传统教育模式及教学方法的弊端。传统的教育理念认为知识的传授过程即是一个灌输过程。许多老师因此在课堂上充分发挥着主导的作用,为了确保学生能更掌握所传授的知识,常常不可避免地运用满堂灌的教学方法,自始至终都以老师为主体,学生则处于被动学习的地位,口语练习的机会更是少之又少。如此一堂课上完,教师愈是疲惫不堪,学生愈是收获甚微了。

  三、学生缺乏自信心。许多学生由于自信心不足,往往不敢开口说英语,总是害怕由于说错或语音不准而招来同学的嘲笑。当他们被提问或被要求对话时,常常会面红耳赤,说不出话来。这些现象都不仅体现出他们害羞的心理,还体现出他们对自己的能力缺乏自信。 

  我国近年来提倡的素质教育和新课程改革就是英语教学上的转折。应试教育的种种弊端已越来越多地显示出其被淘汰的趋势。而新课程注重的是根据教育的规律和学生的身心发展规律来展开教学的。它要求以学生为主体,注重思想素质、心理素质、能力素质等方面的培养;要求学生对所学习的语言项目不仅能掌握、识记,更重要的是把它们运用到实际中来。英语是一门语言,学习这一语言重要的不是语法或时态的生搬硬套,而是要能够学以致用。如果学生不能够把它运用出来,那么所学的语言也就会失去其存在的价值,学生也将会更加确信英语学习的“无用论”,以致把它扔到一边去了。

  为打破学生学习英语的被动局面,提高英语口语水平,从根本上向“哑巴英语”告别,我的做法是:

  一、营造语言环境。我们知道一个小孩之所以能学会说话,主要是因为他置身于一个语言环境中,每天他都能听到来自周围许多人所说的话。而他本人也不断地进行模仿,渐渐地由能发出单音到多个音节以致能表达自己的需求,这就说明了语言环境的重要性。为了给学生创造语言环境,我在上课时采用英语来组织教学,用英语来解释英语。尽可能避免用汉语上英语的现象,不再把所有的文章或对话都翻译成汉语,只有在必要的时候才适当运用母语。这样一来,学生便可以有更多的机会听说英语,从而为英语口语的提高创造了条件。

  二、激发兴趣,使学生积极参与课堂教学。我发现,学生的口语与课堂教学是密切相关的。一些平时在课堂上积极配合老师并能做出相应反应的学生,其口语表达能力会强一些;而另一些较为腼腆的学生或成绩较差的学生往往会在课堂上保持沉默,表现出很不自信,其口语自然就差一些。因此,我在教学中便常常投入情感教学,真诚地与学生交谈,了解学生学习、生活情况,缩小师生间的心理距离,以激发他们学习英语的兴趣。并鼓励他们克服困难,大胆开口,不要害怕出错。不但在课堂上要大胆说,而且在课后也要随时运用日常用语。我在教学中还适当运用了“Thankyou/Please/Welldone/Nevermind.”等有助于激励学生的词,使学生很受鼓舞。每个班已有百分之八十以上的学生都在课堂上跃跃欲试。 

  三、改变教学方法,发挥老师的指导作用。课堂上,我提倡的是把时间还给学生,让学生多说、多练。老师扮演的角色是总指挥,而不是激情演讲的演说者。对于阅读文章或对话的教学,我采用了引导复述、对话、讨论、即时背诵等方法。不仅活跃了课堂,还达到了锻炼学生人人动脑想、个个开口说的目的。

  四、及时表扬,强化成功体验。在口语教学过程中,我认为要把口语水平提高起来,树立起学生的信心,就要使他们感受到成功的喜悦。由于学生层次不同,我对不同的学生提出了不同的要求,而且尽量找到让学生表现的机会,并及时对其成绩加以肯定,使其在享受“成功”的快乐的同时,把胜利的喜悦化为积极进取的动力。

  应该指出的是,英语口语教学的未来将会是任重而道远的。而困难与挫折是教学过程中常常会面临的问题,但其中往往会蕴含着成功与希望。关键是:老师要循循善诱,学生要持之以恒。

  参照alderson&wall的反拔作用假说,综合我校口语考试的实际,我们预测:a口语测试促使老师改善教学方法,提高教学质量。b改变学生学习态度,激发学生对口语学习的热情。c从多方面评价学生的英语水平。d语言测试的反拔作用正面影响大于负面。

  为了适应新形势的要求,体现新课标的精神,跟上“课改”的脚步。我校与许多中学一样,对初中英语教学提出新的教学目标,即在注重培养学生听说读写的综合应用能力的同时,特别加强口语教学,增设口语测试,分值为20分,计入英语总分。此方案从2003级初一新生开始实施,该届970名学生在半期考、期末考进行口试。考查内容为语音语调、即兴回答、自由表达等,主要是学生课内外熟悉的话题,以便学生能更好地表达看法,能反映出学生口语基本技能的情况。为了尽量做到公正,试题从题库中随机抽取,学生抽签,课任老师不考自己班级学生,老师在考前进行培训。为建立良好的考试信度和效度,我们力争做到考试条件相同,尽可能使不同话题和问题在难度方面接近,老师尽可能评分标准一致,使成绩一定程度上反映出学生的语言应用能力
